Sporting Goods Category Manager

The Category Manager position reports to the Director of Purchasing and manages the execution and merchandising of products in the assigned categories. He or she strikes an effective balance between short-term and long-term initiatives and responds constructively to new demands, priorities and challenges. The Category Manager is accountable for supervising any Category Manager Assistant positions. They are also responsible for providing feedback/resources to the stores and ensuring that feedback from customers and the business environment is utilized to identify improvement opportunities and company initiatives. Responsibilities: 1) Product knowledge or experience in multiple categories of sporting goods including Hunting, fishing, shooting sports, marine, and camping Develops business relationships with existing and new vendors to optimize on pricing, terms, and delivery Requests quotes for new items for the most cost-effective purchase and prepares purchase orders within established budget constraints Analyzes inventory levels and sales trends to effectively determine purchase quantities and prepares purchase orders accordingly Maintains inventory levels to maximize inventory turnover and to minimize back orders Collaborates with other departments to ensure quantity, quality, and freight Track vendor orders to ensure the timely delivery of product to the distribution center and manages product line inventories avoiding overstock or the excessive purchase of product Verifies vendor acknowledgements of purchase orders to ensure timely receipt and evaluates back orders with vendors. Increase product availability and grow product margin Respond to common inquiries or complaints from employees, customers, or vendors Effectively present information to management or executive team Skills and Qualifications: Intermediate level skills in Epicor (or other similar retail software) preferred Experience in relationship building Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills Detail oriented and works with a high degree of accuracy Exceptional Business insight Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations A desire to learn new concepts and have a passionate curiosity related to this position Physical Demands: Sit for up to 8 hours per day. Required to travel, some overnight stays possible. Education: High School or GED required, Bachelor degree is strongly preferred. Experience: A minimum of 3 years of relevant retail buying experience preferred.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
